ABSTRACT.

News of the success of Singaporean scientists in the online mass media became the center of attention because they used durian skin to be plastered. The purpose of this study was to determine the word aspect in constructing news about the success of Singaporean scientists in online media using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis model. The method used in this study is a qualitative research analysis with a critical scalpel developed by Norman Fairclough. From these findings, the authors conclude that the critical analysis obtained from the six online mass media are representation, relational and identity. The role of the media cannot be separated from the ideology of practice, meaning that the media with various news presentations use certain constructions to attract the interest of readers. There are six mass media analyzed online, namely (cnnindonesia.com, food.detik.com, liputan6.com, pathmedia.com, mimbarsumbar.id, and republica.co.id). The six online mass media describe various kinds of realities that arise by choosing the same title and discourse. The language used in the news text is packaged in a light, concise, and easily accessible way for the wider community.
